Virgin America is a new, California-based airline that is on a mission to make flying good again — with brand new planes, attractive fares, topnotch service, and a host of fun, innovative amenities that are reinventing domestic air travel.
"KnowledgeTree is phenomenal and incredibly simple. It's really, really cool and all Web-based. It took about two hours to set up and roll it out to all company departments."
Bill Maguire, CIO, Virgin America
Challenge
As a discount airline startup with most of their capital invested in aircraft, Virgin America sought a cost-effective solution to electronically store and retrieve all their company documents from a central repository
The document management solution had to fit in with their existing open source infrastructure, be easy to implement, and quick to roll out
Solution
The airline selected KnowledgeTree to support multiple business units and over 700 employees in the US
60% of Virgin America’s IT infrastructure was based on a Linux operating system and a host of other open source applications running on inexpensive servers
KnowledgeTree provided Virgin America with a secure and central place to electronically store and access company documents
Results
After two days of implementation, KnowledgeTree was ready to be used in a production environment
All documents are now electronically stored, retrieved and managed within KnowledgeTree, providing Virgin America employees with quick access to all the information they require without the need to search through document hardcopies
KnowledgeTree’s powerful group or role-based security structure now ensures that all HR documents, financial contracts, and other legal documents are accessible to the right people
As a part of Virgin America’s IT infrastructure, KnowledgeTree’s cost-effectiveness played an important role in reducing Virgin America’s annual IT budget
